What do Morgan Freeman and parenting have in common?

Good question.  Watch this movie trailer for March of the Penguins and see if you can find the link!

Did you like the video (so cute, right)?  But you may be thinking, “What does this have to do with me”?

If you take out Morgan Freeman’s voice over, what do you have left –a video with a bunch of really cute penguins?  Could you watch that video for the next one or more hours?  Probably not.

Well, here’s the connection.

What your baby sees is like the documentary — the world is an amazing thing!  Without you to be the “Morgan Freeman” in your baby’s life, the world around her becomes boring after a while.  It is important for your baby’s growth and development, specifically brain and language development, for you to explain the world to your baby.  In other words, be your baby’s voice over.

Although you may feel weird or even awkward about telling your baby about everything that is going on around her, it is super important!  Be her narrator.  This is how your baby learns the names of all the “what’s its” and “thing-a-ma-bobs” that she is constantly connecting with.

This helps your baby with speech and language, learning, relationships and the list goes on.  It makes the world of difference to your baby when you discover her world with her.
