No time for a shower? You’re not alone!

Shower head with water drops falling on a bathroomYou might be days, weeks or months into new parenthood and still can’t find time for a shower, bath, nap…etc. without getting overwhelmed. The days fly by with caring for your wee one and there doesn’t seem to be any time left to care for yourself.  Sound familiar?

Here are 3 tips to help manage your time with a new baby:

1. Prioritize

Do you really need to vacuum today?  Or, can the dust bunnies wait?  Do you really need to cook?  Or, can someone else cook for you?  Maybe you can even eat pre-made meals from the grocery store.  We all make choices with the limited time we have.  If you only have 10 minutes to spare, take that time for you.  The dust bunnies will forgive you.

2. Ask for help

So many of us struggle with this.  We don’t want to put others out, we don’t feel comfortable, we don’t want others to think we can’t manage a new baby – but guess what?  You’re not alone!  And I bet someone out there can help you, who WANTS to help you.  How about a neighbour?  A friend?  Maybe even swap ‘you’ time with another new parent.

You’ve heard it before…when we take the time to care for ourselves, we are better able to care for others.

3. Shower together

Bring baby into the bathroom with you!  The sights and sounds can be very stimulating for babies, especially if you sing in the shower 😉

Find the right time, say, after a feed and change.  Strap that baby safely into one of those chairs and shower away. You might even get time for some “loofahing”!
