If you are having a baby, you may be thinking of going to a prenatal program. They are a great way to get ready for the birth of your new baby.  Currently, 1 in 4 pregnant women in Ontario attend prenatal programs.  You don’t have to be a first time parent to benefit from these programs.

3 benefits to attend a prenatal program:

  1. Convenient

Don’t have time to attend prenatal programs?  Want to pick and choose which topics you want to learn about?  An online program is a great option!  It’s available 24/7.

  1. Connect with other expecting parents

Looking for an in-person prenatal program where you can meet other parents and ask questions in person?  Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP) is one group expecting parents can attend. This free weekly program is facilitated by Public Health Nurses and Registered Dietitians.

CPNP is for expecting parents who are facing challenging life situations, such as newcomers to Canada, have had a low birth weight baby before, or financial issues.  Visit Worth Your Weight to see if you are eligible and to find a location near you.

Most hospitals also offer prenatal programs, especially evening and weekend classes. Contact the hospital where you plan to deliver your baby to see which classes they offer!

  1. Feel better prepared for the birth and caring for your baby

Prenatal programs can help you feel better prepared for labour and birth, how to care for your new baby, help you make an informed decision about feeding your baby, and increases your confidence in having a baby.

Almost all new parents who took a prenatal program found it to be useful.

One quarter of parents who didn’t take prenatal programs wished that they had.  If you have any questions or concerns about prenatal programs, feel free to chat with us online or call (416) 338-7600.

  1. I completely agree with the benefits of going to the prenatal programs. The best gynaecologist in Dubai I had consulted before pregnancy had advised me to attend these prenatal yoga and discussions.
