As dietitians we are often asked about easy ways to make quick, convenient, and healthy food choices. Making these choices can start from something as simple as your salad dressing. Zaynab Al-Nuaimi, our nutrition student, has a good idea about this.
Purchasing store prepared dressing may seem more convenient, however, a homemade version can be as simple as following an easy quick recipe. This can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator for later use.
Making your own salad dressing can save money, and makes you aware of how your food is prepared.
Ready-to-eat dressings are often high in calories, saturated fats, sodium, and sugar. By making your own, you can replace those negative traits with healthy fats, and the freshest of ingredients, while also being able to adjust flavours based on your personal preferences.
Making your own dressing can be the perfect complement to your healthy salad!
