Celebrating Pride: 2SLGBTQ+ Parenting Programs in Toronto

In celebrating Pride month we not only celebrate people who identify as 2SLGBTQ+ (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer), but also their families.  Here’s Chi Ching Hui, a Sexual Health Promoter at Toronto Public Health, sharing 5 programs supporting families:

In Toronto, there are many programs that support 2SLGBTQ+ families that focus on family needs prenatally, postnatally, and throughout parenting.

Pride month celebrates people who identify as 2SLGBTQ+ and their families.

The LGBTQ Parenting Network is a program run by Sherbourne Health Centre.  The network offers programing focussed on various ways of becoming a parent (including adoption, surrogacy, co-parenting, foster parenting, pregnancy and birth).

The 519 community centre has several parenting and children’s programs and events.  They also host other community organization groups that are specifically supportive to parents that identify as 2SLGBTQ+.

Every Baby Counts Weekly Drop-In is an inclusive and welcome space at The 519 which is led by community members who are parents and previous program participants.  This program is for parents and caregivers (2SLGBTQ+ & Allies) of children ages 0 – 12 months.  The program includes baby play time, story/song time and facilitated discussion for parents/caregivers.

The EarlyON Child and Family Centre at The 519 provides several parenting and family opportunities, and also hosts monthly Queer and Trans Family Events.  These events provide a supportive space for queer and trans families and their children (ages 0 to 6 years) to meet, play, talk, learn, and grow with each other.

Gay Fathers of Toronto is a non-profit, peer support group run by and for gay men who are fathers.  It provides a place for gay fathers to hear and share stories and experiences with others.  New parents and new members welcome.  The program runs twice a month at The 519.
